Education
Dr. Athanasios Polyzos was born and raised in Limassol. He graduated with honors from the 3rd High School of Agios Ioannis in 2009 and subsequently entered the Medical School of Democritus University of Thrace in Alexandroupoli, after completing his mandatory national service in the National Guard.
In 2016, he received his medical degree from the Medical School with a grade of “Very Good.” The General Oncological Hospital of Kifisia and the General Hospital of Serres were his first stations for his specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, where he completed the general part of Internal Medicine. This was followed by his mandatory rural service (agrotiko) in Astros Kynourias. In 2019, he moved to Athens for the specialist part of his training at the 251st General Air Force Hospital. From his first year of specialty training, he participated as an assistant and later as the primary endoscopist in numerous ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) procedures.
During his final year of specialty training, he attended numerous seminars and underwent further training in centers in Belgium and France on complex polypectomies and the endoscopic management of early cancerous lesions using EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection) and ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection) techniques.
