Education
Doctor Vasileios Giatskos graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Patrice Lumumba University) in Moscow, Russia. After completing his specialization, he worked in several public hospitals in Greece, including Alexandra General Hospital in Athens, where he focused extensively on breast imaging, as well as at the University Hospital in Alexandroupolis.
IKESIOS MRI Center Paralimni is a diagnostic MRI center specializing in the care of patients who suffer from claustrophobia, as well as patients with a larger body build.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most important diagnostic examinations in modern medicine. Today, MRI is a cornerstone of contemporary diagnostics—from imaging of the brain and spine to the heart and soft tissues. This examination provides vital information that guides treatment and saves lives.
IKESIOS MRI Center Paralimni is the first and only MRI center in Famagusta and one of the few in Cyprus specifically designed to meet the needs of patients for whom MRI examinations are most challenging—those with claustrophobia or excess body weight.
The center is equipped with a state-of-the-art Siemens Magnetom Espree 1.5T MRI scanner, which is central to this patient-focused approach. Thanks to its larger diameter, more open design, and low noise levels, patients experience a spacious and comfortable environment rather than a narrow, enclosed tunnel.
Scanner specifications:
-
Aperture diameter: 70 cm
-
Length: only 1.25 m
As a result, in approximately 60% of examinations, the patient’s head remains outside the scanner, at a distance of at least 30 cm from the edge of the bore. This is crucial for patients with claustrophobia. It is no coincidence that IKESIOS MRI Center Paralimni achieves a success rate of around 90% in examinations of claustrophobic patients who were previously unable to complete MRI scans at other centers.
In addition, the Siemens Magnetom Espree 1.5T allows for safe and comfortable imaging of patients with a larger body build. The scanner supports patients weighing up to 200 kg, whereas most other centers have a limit of 120–130 kg. Patients who were previously turned away or experienced significant discomfort in narrow scanners find here a space free of restrictions and fear. It is one of the few centers in Cyprus where accessibility truly applies to everyone.
At IKESIOS MRI Center Paralimni, MRI ceases to be a source of stress and becomes a calm, well-organized, and patient-centered procedure. This is MRI for those who once believed they “could not” undergo the examination.
The center is rightly considered one of the leading diagnostic centers in Cyprus—not only because of its advanced equipment, but above all due to its commitment to quality, respect, and the genuine needs of each patient.
