Education

Doctor Anastasis Panaretou graduated from Ethnarch Makarios III High School in Paphos and continued his studies at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Upon obtaining his medical degree, he pursued a specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Papageorgiou University Hospital in Thessaloniki in 2014.

Subsequently, from 2014 to 2024, he worked as a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Obstetrics Department of Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, one of the largest obstetric clinics in Northern Europe. There, he specialized alongside esteemed professors in Sweden, completing all necessary training stages in Fetal Medicine successfully. He obtained essential certifications for independent practice from the SFOG Specialty Association for Swedish Gynecologists and Obstetricians within the Swedish Medical Association. Moreover, he holds certifications from the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London, enabling him to conduct nuchal translucency ultrasounds, pre-eclampsia risk assessments, premature birth evaluations, among other specialized procedures.

He worked for several years in the Fetal Medicine department, which serves as the local Fetal Medicine unit for 10,000 births per year and is a reference center for over 20,000 births. He was regarded as one of the leading doctors in Fetal Medicine at the department, proficient in conducting high-level ultrasound examinations, including first-trimester embryo assessments, second-trimester fetal screenings for detecting fetal anatomical anomalies (anomaly scan), and third-trimester ultrasound evaluations for assessing fetal well-being. He provided comprehensive care for patients with a spectrum of fetal conditions, gaining experience in managing high-risk pregnancies due to factors such as fetal growth restriction, those at risk of premature birth, complex twin and triplet gestations, placental disorders, and managing pregnancies with major fetal abnormalities. Furthermore, he conducted a substantive number of invasive diagnostic procedures over the years, including chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis (AC), therapeutic amniocentesis in cases of severe hydramnios, and selective reduction of multiple pregnancies.

Currently, Dr. Panaretou is in a private practice at the Dr.Anastasis Panaretou Fetal Medicine Centre in Paphos equipped with the state-of-the-art Voluson Expert 22 BT 24 ultrasound machine.
